The Catcher in the Rye Test
Yesterday in class we started with a creative writing activity associated with The Catcher in the Rye, this work cannot be made up. Then we took sometime to continue reading the novel. Finally we drafted a few test questions for the novel and traded questions to prepare for the unit test.

Catcher in the Rye and Grammar
Today in class we quizzed over our assigned reading from The Catcher in the Rye. We also took a quiz over grammar based on the lessons we did last week. We went over last the test over A Raisin in the Sun from last unit. Finally we took some time to discuss and read from The Catcher in the Rye. Both classes should have read through chapter 17 for class tomorrow.

District Final Essay
Today, most of the time in both classes was dedicated to writing the essay portion of the district final.
In 2nd block, we also heard from one last group's grammar presentation. On Monday, we'll quiz over chapters 1-14 of The Catcher in the Rye and take our grammar quiz.
In 3rd block, we quizzed over chapters 1-9 of The Catcher in the Rye. On Monday we'll quiz over chapters 10-16 and also take our grammar quiz.

Essay Evaluation
In 2nd block today, we heard from and participated in another group's grammar presentations. Tomorrow we'll have our final group present. Afterward, we took some time to evaluate our classmates' practice essays that we wrote yesterday. Hopefully the feedback will be helpful tomorrow. We also took some time to read from The Catcher in the Rye.
In 3rd block, we wrote practice essays in preparation for the district final. We then evaluated each other's essays and gave some feedback. We also heard and participated in our final two groups' grammar presentations.
On Friday we'll start class with our reading quiz over the first nine chapters of The Catcher in the Rye (pages 1-66). Then we'll take our grammar quiz. Finally, we'll take the performance portion of our district final, that is, the essay.

Grammar, Essays and The Catcher in the Rye
Today we heard from and participated in three more grammar presentations. We'll quiz over this information on Friday.

A Raisin in the Sun Unit Test
Yesterday in class we had a substitute as I was out sick. We prepared for our unit test over A Raisin in the Sun. We finished reading the play and completed the Act III Study Questions and a Chronolog handout. Both of these handouts are available on the shelf at the front of the room. We also completed a Latin Vocabulary Roots Crossword.
Today in class we took our Raisin in the Sun unit test, which also covered Latin vocabulary roots. If you were absent, please plan on coming in early or staying after school sometime next week to take the test.

Grammar Lesson Prep
Today in class we worked in our groups to prepare for our grammar lessons taking place next week. Students who were absent should get with their group members in order to prepare for the lesson that they will teach next week. A scoring guide for that presentation is here.

Today, 2nd block was cut short again by the half day. We worked on a graphic organizer on the mood of A Raisin in the Sun. It is available on the shelf at the front of the room. We also finished reading act II.
