Latin Vocabulary Roots

Today's bellwork is here. Today, we began to transition into A Raisin in the Sun. We discussed different needs and how they fit into Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. We went over our tests from The Great Gatsby. Finally, we identified and defined several vocabulary roots for this unit. We will continue to work with these words throughout the unit, but today's work cannot be made up.

The Great Gatsby Test

Today in class we took the unit test over The Great Gatsby. If you were absent today, please plan on coming in before school or staying after school next week to get the test made up. It will take about an hour. After the tests, we finished our character collages while watching some scenes from the film. Have a great Thanksgiving!

The Great Gatsby, Chapters 8-9

Today's bellwork is here. We quizzed over the final two chapters of The Great Gatsby, chapters eight and nine, and discussed these chapters. Then we worked on character collages for our assigned character. Tomorrow will be the unit test over the novel.

The Great Gatsby, Chapter 7

Today's bellwork is here. We quizzed over chapter seven of The Great Gatsby and discussed the chapter. We then took some time to read the final two chapters (eight and nine) of the novel and will quiz over these two chapters on Monday. 3rd block also worked on a handout about 1920s slang in groups. If you were absent from 3rd block, you will not need to make up this handout.

The Great Gatsby, Chapters 5-6

Today's bellwork is here. The reading that goes along with it is here. We quizzed over chapters five and six of The Great Gatsby and discussed the chapters. We took some time to read chapter seven, which should be read by tomorrow. 2nd block finished class by analyzing some slang from the 1920s in small groups. This work does not need to be made up if you were absent today.

The Great Gatsby Setting Maps

Today both blocks (2nd and 3rd) finished their work on The Great Gatsby character webs. We also worked on setting maps in small groups. Students who were absent or at the matinée do not need to make up this work. We finished by spending some time reading chapters five and six and will be quizzed over the two chapters tomorrow.

The Great Gatsby, Chapter 4

Today's bellwork is here. Today we took a quiz over chapter four of The Great Gatsby. We discussed the chapter as well as some important symbols in the novel. Then we spent some time reading chapters five and six, which should be read by Thursday.

2nd block worked on this character web, to be filled out on your specific character from the novel. Those who did not finish in class should turn it in tomorrow for homework.

3rd block worked on this Lit. Circle activity. Those who did not finish it should turn it in tomorrow.

The Great Gatsby, Chapter 1

Today's bellwork is here. We then quizzed over chapter one of The Great Gatsby. We finished watching our biography on F. Scott Fitzgerald and wrote in response to these questions. We began reading chapters two and three of the novel and did a literature circle activity in our reading groups. This activity cannot be made up if you were absent. Please read chapters two and three this weekend and be ready to quiz over them on Monday.

Today's bellwork is here. After a few more research presentations, we began to watch the A&E Biography episode on F. Scott Fitzgerald and wrote from these prompts on it. We began to read The Great Gatsby and chapter one should be read for class tomorrow. There will be a short quiz over the chapter.

Much of this work has already been turned in, but, if it hasn't, today was the last day to do so for full credit. We worked on our research presentations in the lab today. Rough Drafts and Peer Reviews

Yesterday (Tuesday, November 2nd) we spent our time in the library working on rough drafts for our research papers.

Today those rough drafts were due. We then traded our rough drafts to get feedback on them from our classmates. After completing a couple of peer reviews, we went to the library where we began to work on our final drafts. If you were absent today, you do not need to make up the peer reviews, but please note that a final draft of your research paper is due on Monday, November 8th.

In-Text Citations and Outlines

Today in class we went over the formatting for in-text citations. If you were absent, you will not need to make this up, but you should check this website and become familiar with the proper format for in-text citations as you will be graded over it on your research paper. We also worked on a web organizer for our papers. From that web organizer, we chose four topics for our body paragraphs and began filling out the following outline for our research papers. The outline is due at the beginning of class tomorrow and a rough draft of our paper will be due Wednesday at the beginning of class.
